affected cars from hurricane Sandy

In the article "What Happens to All Those Swamped Cars?" the writer Neal Boudette and Matthew Dolan talk about all of the cars that have been affected and messed up by the recent Hurricane Sandy. All of the cars that have been flooded with water are damaged and the writers talk about what repairs are made and how the cars are given back to the owners.
In New York, many of the cars were damaged. This is mostly where the article talks about. Cars in New York were damaged badly. When cars are damaged, auto sales are usually boosted up. When the car is flooded, you cannot usually replace it. It's "un-fixable."
In 2005 during hurricane Katrina about 600,000 cars were damaged. That is a lot of cars to be fixed and a majority of them couldn’t even be fixed because they were messed up so badly. If another hurricane bad like that comes along, I believe even more cars will be damaged.
Some cars are usually seen in about 60 days. If a car is damaged, people will not be able to travel, or go to work. So car companies try and hurry to fix them so people can get to where they're going and be on their way.
Many places that have lots of cars in there city, will have to wait longer to get there car fixed. The car companies business will go up extremely, but people's lives will be slowed down.
If many cars don’t get fixed at once or very shortly, there will be lots full of broken cars and that can be a hardship on the already badly affected ozone. Abandoned cars is not good, it waist lots of people's money.
People can take different safety precautions for when a different hurricane comes along. Cars affected by water rising into them will put many people at a setback that can be stopped pretty easily. All those cars do not need to be messed up at once. More people's money can be saved with different strategies and tips.

low water levels affect's mississippi shipping

in the articale "Low water on Mississippi threatens shipping" the writer's Jim Salter and Jim Suhr talk about how shipping all different food products such as wheat and corn will need to find different ways to make it there. The water level on the rivers that they usually use, are going down, harmimg the shippping prosess.
"You cant just wait until it shuts down and suddenly say,'There's a problem," said the captain of the operations for Chicago-based Cargill Inc. Which is right, once it has happened you can't go back and try to change it. after the water is gone, you have to wait until the rain comes and make it go back up.
The economy dollars will go up into the billions if the river gets shut down. it cuts of all shipping for food, fuel and other necceissitys, which causes the dollars to go up. that will hurt Mississippi bad.
no rain has caused the water levels to go down. The Mississippi River and the Ohio River have not been getting enough of the rain fall which maintains the natural width span and water level. The width of the river has dropped from 1,000 feet plus, right down to just some hundreds of feet.
The river's depth was normally 15-20 feet, but now without the rain, it has dropped to 13 feet. The horrifying level is 9 feet. if the water gets to be that shallow, the boats will not be able to travel on the rivers for a long while.
The Hydrologists for the National Weather Service think that the Mississippi River will be at the 9 feet level by December 9.
If the rain does not hurry up and fall and gspread across the river, it will cause lots of hardship and economic dollars an up-rising. People need to think of plans now before it's to late.

marijuana law

In the article "Marijuana law just creates criminals" the writer Hakieem Jeffries, talks about how people being charged with marijuana is a waste of time and money. He gives examples about how much it costs to arrest all the people.

In 2011 over 50,000 people were arrested in New York for being caught with not a lot of marijuana on them. That is a very large group of people to charge and have locked up. $75 million dollars is spent on locking up people and having them put in jail.

Many young people are being caught with the marijuana on themselves. Police can give somebody who is caught with it a $500 dollar fine or up to 3 months in jail. Just for having any small amount of the marijuana with you.

In 1977 things were very different, if somebody had it in their pocket, it would not matter. But today, a cop can stop you and frisk you to find out if you have anything, or tell you to just empty your pockets. That’s when the consequences come in.

Being caught with marijuana is not good for anybody at all. The jail time that you earn will set you back in life. Many young people that have that on their record have a very hard time finding jobs or going to a good college.

So many people's lives are being messed up and making those criminals because of having being caught with the marijuana law. And lots of money is spent on arresting them and that money can be used for different things.

All of the time and money that the cops spend could be used for a better need. Maybe the marijuana law needs to be lowered. It needs new suggestions. Like giving the person a warning and confiscating their marijuana.

People of all ages need to stay off the streets and in their own homes with the marijuana. It messes up everything for them and maybe the rest of their lives. The money spent is unnecessary. The marijuana law is a good thing, but it's also a very bad thing at times

Driving ages need to go up

In the article "Should 16-years old's drive?" Ted Gregory, the writer stated many facts on the reason why the driving age needs to go up. About how it isn't safe for teens that young to be on the road.
Insurance institute for Highway Safety reporters say "no." No about how the driving age is okay. The Institute makes many points and ideas on why the driving age is just fine. They have various examples and teens with experinces to prove it.
Sophmore Linnea Greci who attends Hinsdale Central High school stated, I don't think it matters what age you are, as long as you have the practice and experience."
that is a very good point to make on the situation. Teenagers were given the privalage of driving at that age for a reason. Whenever they were given that privalege, it was because they could be trusted on the road. Just because some teenagers are not being responsibile, doesn't mean that all the teenagers need to be punished.
by raising the driving age, experts think that the fatalities on the road will be lowored. Teenagers are not caring about this and they are not being responsibile, and now people are trying to take the privlage of young teen driveing away.
Researchers also state, "that licensing at later ages would substanilly reduces crashers involving teen drivers." The crash rates are higher now. Car crashes kill about 5,000 teen's every year. That rate is very high and it is not good.
Teenagers think that they are ready for the road but most really are not. Teenagers think in different ways, so their thoughts change easy. they can think just like a grown-up, but what affects their thinking is all of the problems that teens face and go through. such as mixed emotions and taking risks.
Many experts are trying to raise the ages for teenagers to drive, many teens dont even know this so they aren't acting any better. If teens want to keep the chance of being able to drive at 16, they need to be more responsible  on the road. The death rates are too high for teen's to be messing up now.
Surveys show that more than half of adults and teenages are okay with the plan of raising the driving ages. stating that the death rates will go down, less teens will be on the road, and less will be dying.
A 16 year old teenager, Ryan Moore stated, "I've driven with some people who haven"t been driving very long but are pretty good. Some people are ready, and some people aren't."
That statement can tell you that even 16 year old teenagers can do better than most adults while driving. There is no need for the driving ages to go up. As long as that teenage is ready and okay with the road. They should be on it.

climate change

In the article, "Will Climate Change Get Some Respect Now?" written by Nicholas D. Kristof they talk about the climate changes and how neither one of the campaign members wanted to talk about it.

Many people say that hurricane sandy put Obama at a big advantage.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated to Obama "we have 100-year floods every two years now." and NY times did get observation that the 10 biggest floods in Manhattan have happened over a 3 year time period. This has happened last in 1900.

The New York times tell people to get themselves ready because of all of the harms that they cause people and the environment surrounding them.

A reporter from the National Climatic Data Center states, "10 of the warmest summers on record for the contiguous United States, seven have happened since 2000." the recent summer drought in the US are one of them.

DailyClimate.org reported that the amount of climate articles have gone down 41% in the years 2009-2011. Politicians have not paid attention enough.

Cleaner energy need to be restored. The past hurricane sandy has ruined many places along the shore. Cleaner energy can be restored if people do not build on these sites that were messed up. Also carbon gasses are a big effect on the climate. If people cut down on the use of greenhouse gasses that will be a big help.

Democrats and republicans are not paying any attention to this. This is not like any candidate because the Republicans brag on about how they are so ready for the worst situations.

The climate on earth is acting up and it’s not good. It isn't how it used to be, and when the republicans and democrats don’t pay attention to, neither do the people. When we as people aren’t paying attention we are setting ourselves up for something that we will not be expecting. It could be another bad hurricane or something worse. Our climate needs to be paid attention to today, not in the future so we can regret it.

ADHD pills being used by non ADHD children

In the article, "Attention Disorder or Not, Pills to Help in School", written by Alan Schwarz, he talks about different reasons of why students and people who don’t have ADHD are using attention pills to do better in school, knowing that they don’t need them.
Dr. Anderson states, "I don’t have a whole lot of choice, we’ve decided as a society that it's too expensive to change the kids environment. So we have to change the kid."
Reports have been made that doctors, such as Dr. Anderson, is giving children these ADHD pills to improve their grades in school. The pills will not help with ADHD; the students schools do not have a lot of money so they give these students pills to make their grades go up and to advance their progress.
Students who do have lots of money and good grades are also using these pills. They use the pills to raise their grades even higher. But doctors state that they are using the pills on schools that don’t have money, and the grades of the students are low. Their parents allow the use of the pills, because they want their students to do well.
Parents families who cannot pay for tutoring or family counseling result in going to use the medication pills. One parent, Jacqueline Williams says that there is no way to thank his for giving her three children the pills. She says that all of her students were having trouble paying attention in their classes and focusing on their work.
She states, "My kids don’t want to take it, but I told them 'these are your grades when you're taking it, this is when you don't and they understood." Ms. Williams also says that she does not pay for the medication. Her insurance plan, Medicaid pays for just about everything of the medication and doctor costs.
Many doctors and many people do not believe that the children are being harmed when they take these pills. But there are doctors who say that the children’s health is being put at risk. Side effects of the pill are growth suppression, increased blood pressure rate, and sometimes psychotic episodes.
With all of these risks, parents should not be giving their children this. The pill will help the kids learning progress. But it will affect their health. No grade is good enough that the child needs to be put in harm’s way just to get it.
A company like The Drug Enforcement Administration puts these pills in the category as addictive. Meaning that even after the student has got all of the grades needed during their years of child hood, they may still use it. Some doctors say that many still use the pills into their adult years long gone after the ADHD affects are gone.
These pills will affect the student’s grade and perhaps make their focusing skills go up during their child hood, but a long term use can affect their adult hood badly. Nobody should have to see their child get hooked onto something that they do not need.

reactions to the election

In the article "Yay! Boo! So? Reactions to Obama win vary" written by Peter Mucha, he talks about how people are reacting to the recent election.
Different people have different opinions on what has changed about the candidates and how the debate was going.
One person, 49 year old Marty Brenna from Laurel Springs has word to say about the debate. He states "I'm a little bit disappointed. I wasn't really happy with either candidate."
Marty is not the only person who would feel this way. He may have other reasons on why not to like the candidates. Each candidate had different opinions on different subjects.
Barbra Drucker who is a 61 year old woman from Collingswood had a different opinion. "I am thrilled to death." she stated. "I would have never voted for Romney on women's issues alone."
Many other people all out through the United States were shocked by what Romney had to say about cutting off different funding’s and other needs for young women. And even older women. Being a female and having Romney as president would be hard for Barbra.
Other responses were being made due to hurricane sandy. "I think the storm put him over the edge." stated 53 year old Len Burkhardt from Haddon Heights. He also states, "I certainly do give some of the credit to Chris Christie."
Len says that he would rather have Mitt Romney in the white house then Obama, claiming that
Romney is more of a businessman; he says that Obama is "not as fiscally smart or fiscally responsible."
There are many views and both candidates are being criticized about what they have been doing and what they are doing now. People are very angered because they thought that Romney was a little crazy because of the things that he was planning on doing.
Obama fans from his first term are also angered. "I'm not happy, I haven't had a job in over a year.' stated a 51 years old man Chuck Pihl from Haddon Heights.
That will anger people because Obama promised changed, and when Chuck has said this, you can tell that he is not happy.
"I knew Barack was going to win, I think he's more trustworthy. He seems more of a people person." Said 45 year old Jackie Harrison from Coatesville.
All different people have all different opinions about Obama vs. Mitt. But at the end, Obama won. so you can determine even though many people do not like what Obama has not been doing, the people who voted for him believe that he can still change and he is the better choice for the United States.
his way. He may have other reasons on why not to like the candidates. Each candidate had different opinions on different subject.

Egypt opens up the Gaza Strip Border

In the Article, “Egypt Opens Gaza’s border written by Ibrahim Barzak the talk about different things that has to do with the Gaza boarder and its people. Crossing The Gaza strip boarder in Egypt has just opened from a 4 year block on the Strip. It was over crowded with the population of 1.5 million and has brought much joy and relief to the Palestian people. Without the boarded now blocking them, the people are able to travel in and out the city more.

The strip was first blocked off to Islamic militant after the Hamas took over Gaza in June 2007. Rules with passing cargo, which was bound with Gaza, now haves harsher rules to go by and have different mind sets.

The Naval blockade was supposed to make the Hama people weak. The economic status then over populated Gaza; which is why it was so crowded with people.

At 9p.m lots of Gaza’s people crowded together on Saturday waiting for the first bus to cross the border. While people were waiting and while busses were leaving there were two Egyptian officers guarding with an Egyptian flag on the boarders gates.

Many of Gaza’s people were happy to finally be able to go over the border. People such as Rami Arafat, a 52 year old man who was one of the early buses pick up and drop-off's is finally leaving Gaza and doing something. He got a flight of Cairo for his daughter’s wedding.

Rami states, "All we need is to travel like humans, be treated with dignity, and feel like any other citizens of the world who can travel in and out freely."

A different man, Khaled Halaweh stated that he was going to Egypt to study for his Master’s Degree at Alexandria University. He was going to study engineering.

Khaled says, "The closure did not affect only the travel of passengers or the flowing of goods. Our brains and our thoughts were under blockade." Khaled Halaweh has not been able to leave Gaza for 7 years.

Everyday tons of Palestinians are going to be able to cross the border. The transition was smooth and not crazy. One by one person, the Hamas police got the passengers to make their travel documents official.

The new system has helped 340 people cross from Gaza to Egypt in 5 1/2 hours. Nobody was told to go back unless they wanted to, the people had the will to go back, or stay. When they found out there was a departure long ago which didn’t accept passengers that were on a "blacklist". After this, a set of 150 more people were sent out of Gaza.

The boarder being open is going to make life easier for the Gaza people and they will be able to experience new ways of life. Gaza’s boarder being open will open up many new journeys for the people.

cheating found with high achievers

.  In This article, "Studies Find More Students Cheating, With High Achievers No Exception “written by Richard Perez-Pena, are about more students cheating, and students who are doing well in school with their grades are to. Many high achieving schools are found cheating more.
Some schools such as Harvard, the Air Force Academy and the Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. A majority of students don’t complete standards.
Experts state that cheating is getting easier because more teachers aren’t giving out consequences. They say that there is no way to possibly know what they’re doing and they can’t stop their classes for an individual student every time.

Cheating is found more now in high achieving students. This shows signs that they are most likely being pressured and get nervous, so they cheat. In high achieving a school that is cheating does not have a good back round.
With the help of internet, cheating has become easier for students, it’s easier to communicate answers through friend, and plagiarize work. Experts and teachers say that the internet has student’s attitudes. The internet is giving students a world of faster and easier downloading, searching, and copy and pasting work. This has all caused the students to lack in the qualities of authorship and ownership.
A survey was taken at the University of Yale in 2010. It was taken by the undergraduates of the university. The survey stated that most of the students that attended the university had never read the school's policy on academic honesty. A majority of them were not clear on how to share or "recycle" their work with each other.
Cheating is not accepted and should have more punishments. If a student is cheating they are not learning. They are wasting your time and losing their education. No teacher should have to deal with that.

texting rates, and ints consequencies

In the articale, "Texting May Be Taking A Toll" written by Katie Hafner, the author states that teenagers text late nights while there parents are asllep. or while in school, sneaking it behind there backs.
The texting rates in teens are skyrockiting! They say teens that text way to much thumbs are hurting. Some parents are very concerned about there teens habits.
Some moblie networks such as AT&T and Verizon wireless, studied that in the year 2008, teenagers that live America sent and recieved on average 2,272 messages a month. that is about 80 messages per one day and that is over twice a s much since the year before that.
Pediatritans, Physicians, and Psychologist are studeying the behaviors of teenagers due to there texting habits. Dr. Martin Joffe, who is a pediatritan is studnying the sleep habits of teens while they raise in texting levels.
Dr. Joffe studied that students are sending hunderds of texts per one day. he states, "thats one every few minutes" he then said, "then you hear thes e kids are respondig to texts late at tnight. Thats going to cause sleep issues in an age group thats already plagued with sleep issues."
Greg Hardesy who is a reporter studeyed that a 13 year old student, Renia who lives in in Lake Forest California, sent about 14,528 text messages in one month. She would put her phone on vibrate while shes sleeping so she could be awakened by the lights and get a new message to retort to.
Recently Renia's grades have gone down dramatically. She got more texts after the report was put out. At that time she sent and recieved about 24,000 texts a month. once her parents saw how horrible she was doing in school, she got her phone token away from her.
Every since she had her phone tooken, her grades have improved and she is limited to 5,000 messages amonth. her parents also have stopped the late night texting, she is only allowed to text from 9 p.m. - 6p.m. on the weekdays.
teenagers arent the only people texting and not doing what they have to do. Parents are also skyrocketing textmessages. After coming from aballet practice teens dont want to see there parents texting away and not paying attention.
Reina states, "the fantasy of every adolescent is that the parent is there, waiting, expectant, completly for them.' When Reina says this you can tell that texting has not only become a problem for the new generation, it has also become a big problem for parents and older generations.
